Don't turn your head...

“A good friend of mine said, "You are married to sorrow." And I looked at him and said, "I am not married to sorrow. I just choose not to look away."

And I think there is deep beauty in not averting our gaze.

No matter how hard it is, no matter how heartbreaking it can be. It is about presence. It is about bearing witness.

I used to think bearing witness was a passive act. I don't believe that anymore. I think that when we are present, when we bear witness, when we do not divert our gaze, something is revealed—the very marrow of life. We change. A transformation occurs. Our consciousness shifts.

This quote from Terry Tempest WiIliams is speaking right to the heart of what I am feeling.

I keep seeing memes suggesting that soon all this will pass and things will be “normal” again.

I hope not.

Let’s NOT go back to our ways of selfishness and gluttony and competition.

Let’s stay connected.

Let’s keep caring about each other - especially those who have less than we do.

Let’s remember our privilege and keep sharing and loving and helping.

Let’s heal ourselves and the Earth and create a new world based on connection and interdependence and healing and love and simplicity.

Let’s not go back to sleep.

Our lives and the life of our planet depend on it.

Please….just please🙏💕
